Dutch Officials May Model Their High School System After The Met

A group of foreign dignitaries are in San Diego Tuesday to take a closer look at a high school they want to copy in their country. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical High School, also called The Met, is located on the campus of San Diego Mesa College. Met students are required to intern and take college courses in addition to managing their high school classes.
So far it’s been successful. That approach intrigues Dutch education officials. The country is looking to modernize its age-old education system.
Education Minister Barbara Siregar: This one is a good example that it works. It’s about inspiring students, real attention for students, and it’s about working as a team that is caring for students.
Siregar says there’s a top-down, one-size-fits-all approach in the Netherlands.
