In the U.S., one student drops out of school every 12 seconds.
That's a lot of students so far this school year.

Micah Childs

Eleventh grader at Met Sacramento

Micah Childs had attended private school from kindergarten to tenth grade, when she and her mother agreed that it was time to find a new school with more one-on-one time with teachers for Micah. They found Met Sacramento on the Big Picture Learning website and applied.

Micah has now been a student at Met Sacramento for two months. She has yet to secure an LTI, but she is presently pursuing placement at the UC Davis Medical Center. In the meantime, she is working closely with one of the Met Sacramento advisors to learn the ins and outs of a teaching career. Although Micah loves working alongside a Met Sac advisor, she’s very excited to get out in the world beyond the walls of Met Sac and learn through experience in the medical profession.

In addition to the LTI component of the Big Picture Learning design, she really appreciates her daily independent study time, so she gets more time to digest and understand her work deeply. When asked what her favorite element is of her Big Picture school, Micah replied: “I can’t think of a favorite element. I love everything about it.”

Five people who inspire Micah:

  • Her mother
  • Allen (her principal)
  • Grace (an advisor at Met Sac)
  • Tyra Banks
  • Shoshanah Schley
