News from Animo Film & Theatre Arts Charter High School!
On this very day (due to the time difference between Ireland and here) the Animo FTA Blastbeat Team, Urban Revolt Records, and their Sponsor/Coach, Marlem Landa, captured the Blastbeat World Finals award for Music & Multimedia Companies in Dublin.
In delivering their finals presentation, they competed against winning groups from Austin, TX, New York, Slovakia, South Africa, The Czech Republic, England, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and collaboration they have put in over much of the past year. Their material prize is 6,000 Euros and a variety of plaques and such. Their non-material prize, as MasterCard is fond of saying, is ‘priceless’.
In order to compete on behalf of the Southern California region in this event, The Urban Revolt group had to create a business plan for a Music and Multmedia company, identify and recruit talented young musicians in their area, promote and stage concerts starring these groups, and document and blog all of their activities online to share with the entire international Blastbeat community. Their award, as you can infer, was for the business competition, which culminated in formal presentations at the Musicians’ Institute in Hollywood this past June. There is another aspect of the Blastbeat experience, the award for winning band, and this year saw another Los Angeles winner, SomeWhere Else, from Hamilton High School’s Music Magnet program, take top honors in Dublin today.
Urban Revolt’s next phase will be enacted in conjunction with the U.C.L.A. Anderson School of Management’s Project Echo Competition this Winter and Spring, as we develop plans to open the first live-music night club (teen-friendly of course) to open on Los Angeles’ Historic Central Avenue in almost 50 years.
Please join our school community in celebrating their creativity and hard work, a real tribute to the Green Dot organization and the international Big Picture Network!
