Indy Met Student Selected for NASA Internship
William Sprowl is going where a select few high school students get to go – and that’s to learn about science, technology, engineering and math alongside NASA scientists and researchers.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan High School incoming senior is one of only 150 students from the United States and Puerto Rico chosen to participate in the NASA education project, “INSPIRE,” the Interdisciplinary National Science Project Incorporating Research and Education Experience.
William will be working at the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, from June 15 through Aug. 7. At Glenn, engineers and scientists work on cutting-edge research that includes sustaining life on the moon and developing prototypes for rockets.
The INSPIRE project is open to students in grades 9-12 who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math, and have at least a grade a 3.0 grade point average.
William, who plans to pursue chemical engineering or astronomy as a career, is excited about the internship.
“I hope that by going to NASA and working with scientists and doing the various activities that I’ll be able to learn more about this field to see if it’s something I want to do in the future.”
