The
Big Picture Company and the
Ford Motor Company's Partnership for Advanced Studies
The Big Picture
Company recognizes the importance of early exposure to college
level work and expectations for its students. Allowing students
to explore the challenges that college offers while still recieving
support at their high school enables them to develop the skills
they will need to succeed in their postsecondary education. Big
Picture students are encouraged to enroll in courses for credit
at their local community colleges or other institutions of higher
learning.
In 2003, The Big Picture Company
recieved a three-year grant from the Ford Motor Company to adapt
the Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies (Ford PAS) curriculum
to enhance students' project work. Through this grant, two college-level
courses are currently offered to Providence, RI Met students in
the City Campus Initiative at the Community College of Rhode Island.
Students in these courses recieve three credits from the college
after completing advanced project work in the fields of business
and product design. These courses are evidence that the Big Picture
philosophy of personalized, project-based learning can be applied
at the college level.
The focus of the third year
of the grant (2005-06) will be to disseminate these resources
to other Big Picture Schools around the country. The course websites
listed below were designed for students in the Ford PAS classes.
