Hands, Minds, and Learning: An audio summary of Big Picture’s Hand Conference in Dearborn, MIWith support from the Ford Motor Company Fund, Big Picture convened a small and diverse group of scholars and scholar-practitioners who are united by a passionate belief that all learning is amplified and enriched when the body informs the mind and the mind informs the body. The eclectic group of participants have developed different ways of demonstrating that learning is connected and enhanced through the hands and that language and tool use are interdependent. The meeting examined these issues through the tools, methods, and strategies they have developed to create the energy needed to bring learning into our schools in ways that make sense to our youth, our teachers, our communities, and our workforce. This piece summarizes this incredible gathering.
