Supporters of Big Picture help students like Carlos. A 16 year-old from the
inner-city, Carlos never believed that college was part of his future.
There was no room in his middle school curriculum to explore his passion
and aptitude for art and science. Today, at his Big Picture School, Carlos
is interning a full two days per week with a nationally-recognized muralist
who works alongside Carlos’s advisor (teacher) and his family to
ensure that he develops the skills he will need to be successful in college
and throughout his life. Next year, Carlos hopes to find a mentor at the
local hospital where he can learn more about cancer research. Perhaps he
will be able to design murals for the children’s cancer ward.

his school, the entire Big Picture School network, and our organization’s
vision for the future of education.
