Brian Martin serves as the Data and Systems Manager for Big Picture Learning’s START Center Initiatives where he focuses on collecting, organizing, and analyzing data on student success.

Before joining Big Picture Learning National Team, Brian spent four years as an Advisor at The Met High School in, Rhode Island- the first ever BPL school, guiding the same group of students from ninth grade through graduation. In that role, he supported students through individualized academic projects, internships, senior thesis work, and postsecondary planning. His experience at The Met strengthened his belief that education is most meaningful when students are known well, connected to real-world experiences, and given opportunities to shape their own learning.

Brian earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and English from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree in Urban Education Policy from Brown University. He also completed an internship with Big Picture Learning’s New York City team, where he focused on data collection, analysis, and systems for measuring student success in work-based learning.

Brian is especially interested in educational equity, student-centered learning, and using data to improve systems without losing sight of the individual students behind the numbers. Outside of work, he enjoys live music, thrifting, traveling, and spending time exploring his new home of Hoboken, NJ!
