Karla Cruz Godoy is an educator, community organizer, and strong advocate of Big Picture's mission and values. Karla’s love for Big Picture originated from her own experience as an alumni of the San Diego Met, Class of 2012. She went on to earn a B.A. from UC Berkeley in Gender and Women’s Studies and Education and was inspired to tackle educational inequality by directly working in the classroom as a secondary ELA teacher. In 2016, Karla joined Urban Teachers, a teacher residency program, in Washington D.C. where she taught at the high school level while simultaneously earning a Masters of Science in Education (M.S. Ed) from Johns Hopkins University. Over the last year, Karla worked in the nonprofit world as a Site Director for Saga Education, an organization empowered to support students in math by building strong, personalized relationships.

Currently, Karla serves as the Special Assistant to the Co-Executive Director at Big Picture Learning, where she provides strategic and programmatic support for a variety of projects including, but not limited to the Deeper Learning Equity Fellowship and BPL's annual international conferences. Outside of working with Big Picture, Karla spends her time playing recreational kickball, traveling, and playing fetch with her dog, Lucy.
